IVM and Ecosystem Management Regional Case Studies & Workshops
IVM Partners has applied for an EPA Environmental Education grant to develop multi-year case studies documenting the effect of various integrated vegetation management (IVM) techniques on rights-of-way (ROW) plant communities in varying ecosystems across at least six different regions of the United States. The results will be shared with industry, agency, conservation and academia in the manner of classroom and field tour workshops and conferences, and through print and Internet by the various partners. The findings will help define what are the best practices for providing the primary service of the ROW; such as safe and reliable electricity or highway safety and aesthetics, while also meeting secondary concerns; such as wildlife habitat, threatened or endangered species, watershed protection, invasive weed control, wildfire protection, reduced pollution and lowering the carbon footprint of maintenance practices.
